As a novelist, I’m interested in stories that connect the strange and sublime with the familiar. Inspired by retellings and reimaginings, my work aims to unearth unexpected and unconventional worlds from the stories we think we know. An opera obsessive and a dedicated museumgoer (with a particular passion for the feline-centric), my work builds on classical foundations to create something wholly modern, feminist, and wildly imaginative.

THE LIGHTNING BOTTLER |
YA Science fiction |
Thriving somewhere between Chuck Wendig’s HEARTLAND TRILOGY and Suzanne Collins’ HUNGER GAMES, it juxtaposes the two worlds of Appalachian bootlegging and high-tech corporate monopolization, with Hindu mythos peppered in.
Ahilya is a lightning bottler. Always has been. And she can hold her own for a teenager. So when a City Man shows up asking her to join the most elite team of lightning bottlers in the world, where she’d get to leave her abusive small town for the bustle of the big city, she quickly agrees. In training for her new position, the instructors warn if you’re not up to snuff you get sent home. As time goes on, their class dwindles. But one day, a student claims the ones who get cut aren’t being sent home at all; they're held as prisoners and tortured as part of a big experiment. A secret hides within the walls of the company, but Lya just wants to keep her head down and graduate. She doesn’t have time for conspiracy theories. Until she herself gets cut. |
THE MEMOIRS OF GENEVIEVE ALLWOOD |
historical fantasy |
In a world where only men have the ability to perform magic, Genevieve has found out she possesses the Gift. Now only if she was allowed to use it…
Genevieve embarks upon a lifetime of hard work, fighting for her opportunity to study to become a Maegus. She survives Senator McCarthy and HUAC’s illegal questioning of the magical community. She survives the civil rights movement, where minorities are lumped together and refused the chance to perform magic as white men do. She survives to form the WMA (Women Maegi of America), and to win a Supreme Court case that solidifies once and for all her constitutional rights as a Maegus. She continues on to become the first woman Secretary of Magic in the history of the United States’ Presidential Cabinet, a paramount figure in the history of women’s rights. An epic historical fantasy, the text brings into focus an alternate history of the United States where magic is commonplace, but a woman performing it is not. Touching on many historical and present social issues, it is a work that rings with echoes of our current political climate. |
